bubble_chart Formula Principles
Chronic kidney failure refers to a group of clinical syndromes characterized by progressive fibrosis of the kidneys, progressive destruction of nephrons, and a progressive decline in the excretory and endocrine functions of the kidneys, accompanied by corresponding clinical manifestations. Common symptoms include dizziness, lack of strength, general aching pain, edema, chest tightness, palpitation, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, poor sleep, and cutaneous pruritus. This disease is similar to anuria and vomiting, ischuria, edema, uremic poisoning, and kidney fatigue.
Chronic kidney failure is caused by the prolonged and unhealed progression of various chronic kidney diseases, involving both deficiencies of qi, blood, yin, and yang, as well as internal accumulation of dampness, turbidity, and static blood. The location of the disease is in the spleen and kidneys, often affecting the heart, liver, lungs, and stomach. Spleen and kidney deficiency and decline, along with the retention of turbid toxins, are key factors. The spleen and kidneys are the foundation of the innate and acquired constitutions. When the kidneys fail to transform and warm qi, and the spleen fails to transport and transform, the source of water and grain generation and transformation is insufficient, leading to internal accumulation of turbid toxins. This manifests as lack of strength, soft limbs, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, and poor sleep. Dampness and turbidity invading the skin cause edema; disturbing the seven orifices results in dizziness; affecting the heart and lungs leads to chest tightness, palpitation, and shortness of breath. Prolonged illness entering the collaterals, combined with poor qi movement and obstruction by water, dampness, turbidity, and toxins, exacerbates blood stasis. Therefore, treatment focuses on strengthening the spleen and tonifying the kidneys, invigorating the blood to unblock collaterals, and detoxifying and reducing turbidity. The formula uses Astragalus Root and Tangshen as sovereign medicinals to tonify the middle and replenish qi; Poria to invigorate the spleen and drain dampness; Unprocessed Rehmannia Root and Danpi to clear heat, cool the blood, and enrich yin; Hedyotis and Phellodendron Bark to clear heat, remove toxins, promote diuresis, and eliminate dampness; Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, Earthworm, and Zedoary Rhizome to invigorate blood, remove stagnation, disperse nodules, and dispel wind to relieve pain, collectively assisting the sovereign medicinals in tonifying qi, activating blood, and expelling turbidity; Eucommia Bark to tonify the kidneys and strengthen bones and tendons; and Rhubarb Rhizoma to purge accumulation, remove toxins, and expel stasis. The combination of these herbs can alleviate symptoms such as lack of strength, aching pain, and edema.
