This prescription is commonly used for external contraction of wind-heat and has good efficacy for mumps and tonsillitis caused by upper energizer heat toxin. In the prescription, Saposhnikovia Root, Schizonepeta, and Notopterygium disperse external pathogens, wind-cold heat toxin; Forsythia and Great Burdock Achene reduce swelling and remove toxin; Platycodon Root and Liquorice Root evacuate pus and expel toxin, and also treat throat swelling and pain; Gypsum clears heat and reduces inflammation.

1. For severe swelling and pain in mumps: add Lonicera, Isatis Root.
2. For severe sore throat: add common andrographis herb, Belamcanda Rhizome, Scrophularia Root.
