bubble_chart Indications
Wind-dampness, wind edema. Symptoms include sweating, aversion to wind, heavy body, swelling, difficulty in urination, pale tongue with white coating, and floating pulse.
bubble_chart Formula Principles
This prescription is used to treat wind-dampness, wind edema, and conditions caused by deficiency of healthy qi, insecurity of exterior qi, and external invasion of wind pathogens, leading to water-dampness stagnation in the superficial muscles. In the formula, Stephania Tetrandra dispels wind and promotes water movement, while Astragalus Root replenishes qi and consolidates the exterior, and also promotes water movement and reduces swelling. The combination of these two herbs promotes diuresis without harming the healthy qi, serving as the sovereign herbs. White Atractylodes Rhizome tonifies qi and invigorates the spleen to eliminate dampness, further assisting Astragalus Root in consolidating the exterior, serving as the minister herb. Liquorice Root strengthens the spleen and harmonizes the middle, regulating the actions of the other herbs. Fresh Ginger Rhizome and Chinese Date harmonize the nutrient and defensive aspects. When all the herbs are used together, they consolidate the exterior qi, expel wind pathogens, strengthen the spleen qi, and promote the smooth flow of water pathways, thereby resolving the symptoms.
