2. Li Shi-zhen said: There are five types of consumptive diseases. If the consumptive disease is in the liver, gallbladder, heart, or pericardium with heat, or if there is cold and heat in the Shaoyang meridian, then Bupleurum is an essential medicine for the Jueyin and Shaoyang meridians. If the consumptive disease is in the spleen and stomach with heat, or if the yang qi has sunk, then Bupleurum is an essential medicine for reducing heat and raising the clear. However, it should not be used for consumptive diseases in the lungs and kidneys. Kou's blanket rejection is not a comprehensive view.
