bubble_chart Formula Principles
Cough with yellow, thick, and sticky phlegm is all caused by phlegm-heat. Palpitation due to fright and insomnia is also caused by internal disturbance of phlegm-heat, affecting the restlessness of the mind. In the formula, Skullcap Root and Trichosanthis Fruit are used to clear heat and resolve phlegm. Since the formation of heat-phlegm is due to the fire pathogen scorching body fluids, these are the main herbs in the formula. To treat phlegm, it is necessary to regulate qi, so Dried Tangerine Peel and Immature Orange Fruit are used to lower qi and eliminate phlegm. The spleen is the source of phlegm, and the lung is the container of phlegm, so Poria is added to invigorate the spleen and drain dampness, and Bitter Apricot Seed is used to ventilate the lung and lower qi. Pinellia and 膽星 are added to enhance the effect of resolving phlegm. When used together, they can regulate qi, clear heat-phlegm, and ensure that when qi is regulated, fire is reduced; when heat is cleared, phlegm is eliminated; and when phlegm is eliminated, fire has nothing to attach to, and all symptoms can be resolved.
