A patient, male, 17 years old, with fever, sweating, dizziness, and diarrhea 3-4 times a day. A serum agglutination test for cold-damage disease was conducted, and the impression was intestinal cold-damage disease. Body temperature was 39°C, with listlessness, pale complexion, rose spots on the chest and back, soft abdomen, and liver and spleen not palpable. The pulse was wiry and slow, the tongue texture was red with a thin white coating. After admission, Xianglian Huazhi Pills were administered for 3 days without significant improvement.
The patient had fever and sweating, no aversion to cold but aversion to heat, thirst with a preference for drinking, and loose, foul-smelling stools, indicating a syndrome of heat-related diarrhea. It was decided to treat with Pueraria, Skullcap, and Coptis Decoction:
Pueraria Root 15g, Coptis Rhizome, Skullcap Root, each 5g, Prepared Liquorice Root 3g.
After one dose, symptoms alleviated, so the dosage was doubled and two more doses were taken, after which all symptoms disappeared, the pulse became calm, and the body cooled. Another dose of the original formula was given for follow-up.
