Luo, female, 41 years old, fell ill on March 9. Symptoms include aversion to cold without sweating, headache, pain in the neck, back, and shoulder blades, nausea, a normal mouth, generalized twitching pain, a floating and tight pulse, and sighing. Her family was anxious and quickly sought Western medical treatment, but injections of analgesics and sedatives were ineffective. They then consulted a Chinese medicine practitioner who used herbs such as Schizonepeta, Saposhnikovia, Notopterygium, and Angelica pubescens, but these also had no effect.
On the morning of March 13, I went to examine her, and the symptoms were as described above. Reflecting on the "Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases," which states: "In Taiyang disease, with stiffness of the neck and back, aversion to wind without sweating, Pueraria Decoction is the main treatment." Based on this passage, I prescribed Pueraria Decoction. Since she fell ill after eating meat and had nausea, I added Pinellia, Germinated Barley, and Hawthorn Fruit. After taking the first dose of the decoction, she sweated, the cold sensation ceased, and the pain stopped. It is evident that Pueraria Decoction showed miraculous efficacy with just one dose.
