On the third day, diarrhea appeared, more than 10 times a day, with thirst and desire to drink, but drinking led to immediate diarrhea, accompanied by borborygmus and urgent defecation. Although the anus was red and swollen, there was no tenesmus. The child could still suckle, and the urine was clear and abundant. The fever persisted, with the body feeling like burning charcoal, and the body temperature ranged between 39-40°C. The child was hospitalized for 5 days with a diagnosis of "acute enteritis," but the treatment was not effective.
Examination revealed red and purple fingerprints, which had reached the qi pass, with the tip of the fingerprint pointing to the purlicue. The tongue texture was red and moist, with a thin white coating. The abdomen was distended and tympanic on percussion. This condition was due to external common cold evil, with stagnant heat causing sweating, and a heavy exposure to cold evil, leading to the penetration of stagnant evil into the interior, while the exterior cold had not yet dissipated. This is the syndrome described in the "Cold-Damage Disease Treatise" as "transmission from greater yang to yangming combination of diseases, which must result in diarrhea." The prescription used was Pueraria Decoction:
Pueraria Root 12g, Ephedra 6g, Cinnamon Twig 6g, Peony Root 6g, Prepared Liquorice Root 4g, Fresh Ginger Rhizome 3 slices, Chinese Date 3 pieces.
Decocted with water, take 2 spoonfuls each time, 5 times a day. After taking 1 dose, the condition improved, and 2 doses cured the illness completely.
