One afternoon, he felt chills and headache, and the doctor prescribed 0.2g of phenacetin and 0.2g of aminopyrine, which he took at once. About half an hour later, he experienced profuse sweating, aversion to wind, and an urgent need to urinate without being able to pass urine. A consultation with Chinese medicine was urgently requested.
Examination: The patient appeared emaciated, with a shallow yellow complexion, a frightened expression, profuse dripping sweat all over the body, spasms in the limbs, and restlessness, indicating a critical condition. The pulse was deep, weak, and slightly rapid.
Diagnosis: Profuse sweating due to yang exhaustion.
Prescription: Cinnamon Twig 3 qian, Liquorice Root 2 qian, Peony Root 3 qian, Aconite Lateral Root 3 qian, Fresh Ginger Rhizome 3 fen, Chinese Date 3 pieces.
The symptoms closely resembled those described in the "Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases": "Taiyang disease, after sweating, leads to incessant fistula disease, aversion to wind, difficulty in urination, mild spasms of the limbs, and difficulty in bending and stretching, for which Cinnamon Twig plus Aconite Decoction is prescribed." The medicine was prepared and decocted immediately, and after taking one dose, the sweating stopped and the patient recovered.
