Li, male, 46 years old, was admitted to the hospital due to fever and diarrhea. He reported having a fever (38°C) two days before admission, with six bowel movements on that day. By evening, the diarrhea worsened, with small amounts of stool containing red and white mucus, accompanied by abdominal pain and tenesmus. The day before admission, the frequency of bowel movements increased to fifty to sixty times. After the onset of the illness, his appetite decreased, but there was no vomiting. Physical examination: body temperature 41°C, pulse rate 138 beats per minute, clear consciousness, normal heart, lungs, and blood pressure, enlarged right tonsil, soft abdomen, liver and spleen not palpable, tenderness in the lower abdomen. . The body temperature returned to normal the next day, and the red and white mucus in the stool disappeared on the second day after taking the medication. Diarrhea, abdominal pain, tenesmus, and abdominal tenderness all disappeared by the third day after taking the medication. A total of six doses of Pulsatilla Decoction were taken. Subsequent cultures were negative twice, and the patient recovered after seven days.
