Cold-damage disease with diarrhea, vomiting, dysphoria, reversal cold of hands and feet, and a faint pulse on the verge of extinction indicate a pre-existing deficiency of true yang in the kidneys, with external pathogens invading. Internal cold combines with external cold, causing yin qi to rise and result in vomiting, or descend and cause diarrhea. When yang qi escapes outward, dysphoria occurs; when it stagnates internally, cold limbs manifest. In Zhang Zhongjing's writings, Shaoyin disease is characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, dysphoria, and reversal cold of the limbs, indicating a failure of the central qi due to deficient yang. When the body contains yin qi but lacks yang qi, how can life be sustained? In such cases, White Unblocking Decoction is used as a last resort, relying on its ability to unblock the pulse and rescue yang, in hopes of recovery. If the faint pulse gradually strengthens, it is a sign of life returning.
