Zhu Mou, female, 32 years old, visited on the morning of August 2, 1977. The patient had a fever and sore throat for several days, with a fine and soft pulse, and no signs of urgency. The skin was cool and moist, with a thin tongue coating, blackened swallowwort root, and a yellow-red quality. She had taken cold and cooling medicine without effect, and still had a burning pain in the throat, difficulty swallowing, and coughed up phlegm that was pus-like and bloody. A mild fever persisted, along with a headache and blurred vision. This illness had recurred several times, and this episode was particularly severe.

The patient appeared distressed, with grade III congestion in the throat, local submucosal bleeding points, bilateral tonsils swollen to grade III, with pus points on the surface that had ulcerated, and hyperplasia of the lymphoid follicles on the posterior pharyngeal wall. Prescription:
Pro Formula Pinellia 9g, tender Cinnamon Twig 9g, Prepared Liquorice Root 9g
The above three ingredients were boiled in one bowl of water, added to the boiling water, and simmered for three to five boils, not for long, and frequently gargled and swallowed, finishing the dose in half a day. The next day's visit: the mild fever had cleared, the patient appeared more relaxed, and reported that the medicine felt refreshing upon taking it. Upon examination: the tonsils had significantly reduced in size, the redness and swelling had lessened, but the ulcerated areas had not healed. The original prescription was maintained, with a little vinegar added when taking it, and two doses led to a full recovery.
