Yang, female, 29 years old, first consultation on January 15, 1977. The patient caught a cold after giving birth on December 15 of the previous year, with a slight cough and white phlegm. Half a month later, she frequently experienced coughing, retching, spitting of frothy saliva, and thin phlegm. After coughing, she would vomit a large amount, unable to eat, and had been hospitalized for over 20 days, diagnosed with "bronchitis." Treatment with compound Liquorice Root mixture, cough suppressants, red tangerine exocarp pills, Emol, and Chinese medicinal decoctions had no effect. The patient's constitution gradually weakened, and a consultation was requested. The patient appeared thin and sallow, with a severe illness demeanor, continuously coughing and retching during the examination, with large amounts of frothy saliva gushing out. The tongue coating was thin and white, and the pulse was slippery and fine. Observing the vomiting of frothy saliva as indicative of Evodia Decoction syndrome, the following prescription was given:
Evodia Fruit 10g, Dried Ginger 10g, Tangshen 15g, Chinese Date 4 pieces (pitted), Pinellia 12g
. One dose was decocted and taken daily. After 4 doses, symptoms of vomiting and coughing were significantly reduced, and after another 4 doses, the patient recovered.
