The White Tiger Decoction, or Ginseng White Tiger Decoction, is frequently used in acute febrile sexually transmitted diseases. Excessive heat inevitably depletes fluids and damages qi, so Zhang Zhongjing often prescribed White Tiger Decoction with ginseng rather than using White Tiger Decoction alone. In the Qing Dynasty, Gu Songyuan did not use ginseng but instead used Ophiopogon Tuber and Bamboo Leaf. Throughout history, notable practitioners skilled in the use of Gypsum include Miao Zhongchun of the Ming Dynasty, and Yu Shiyu, Jiang Bihua, Gu Songyuan, Wu Jutong, and the modern Zhang Xichun of the Qing Dynasty. Although each had their own insights into the use of Gypsum, they all followed the principles of Zhang Zhongjing. The White Tiger Decoction is commonly used in the critical stages of acute infectious diseases or non-infectious acute febrile conditions, such as Japanese encephalitis, epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, lobar pneumonia, and sepsis, to clear heat, promote fluid production, relieve irritability, quench thirst, and control the progression of the disease. It is also used in miscellaneous diseases, such as gastritis with stagnant heat, diabetes, and multiple arthralgia of heat and excess type (often seen in acute wind-damp-heat).

When Atractylodes Rhizome is added, it is called White Tiger Decoction Plus Atractylodes; when Cinnamon Twig is added, it is called White Tiger Decoction Plus Cinnamon Twig. These two formulas are widely used in modern times to treat acute wind-damp-heat with prominent joint pain, showing excellent therapeutic effects.
