Liu, male, 40 years old, first consultation on May 12, 1979. The patient has experienced frequent stuffy pain in the lower right abdomen for 3 years, which has worsened in the past half month. Palpation revealed a cylindrical hard mass about 10 cm long in the Lanwei (EX-LE7) area of the lower right abdomen, which is movable and makes gurgling sounds when pressed. The stool is initially hard and dry, then becomes loose. The patient has poor appetite, general soreness, and lack of strength. The complexion is grayish-yellow, the tongue coating is thin and white, and the pulse is deep, slow, thin, and weak. The syndrome is attributed to the middle jiao deficiency and cold, with stagnation of intestinal and stomach qi and blood. Western medicine diagnosis is "chronic appendicitis." The treatment should focus on unblocking yang and transforming qi, and dredging qi and blood. The prescription used is Cinnamon Twig plus Rhubarb Decoction:
Cinnamon Twig 10g, Peony Root 20g, Rhubarb Rhizome 10g, Prepared Liquorice Root 10g, Chinese Date 5 pieces, Fresh Ginger Rhizome 3 slices
. After taking 3 doses of the above prescription, the abdominal pain was relieved, and appetite improved. The original prescription was continued for another 3 doses, after which the hard mass disappeared, and the abdominal pain was resolved. Follow-up to date has shown no recurrence.
