Ms. Yang, female, 60 years old, farmer. Had a history of wind-dampness pain. In early August 1974, she felt unwell, with fear of cold, dizziness, and body pain. One day, while bending over, she suddenly felt severe pain in her lower back, unable to straighten up, with cold sweating on her head, and subsequently could not get out of bed. She invited Dr. Fan for treatment, who treated her according to the taiyang pattern of wind-dampness, and she recovered in more than ten days.
Diagnosis and treatment: lumbago as if being cut, unable to turn over, feeling waves of fear of cold and fever, numbness in hands and feet, complexion dark and dull, lips dark, tongue texture slightly red, tongue coating white and greasy, touching the back of both hands slightly cold, pulse floating and weak. This is the taiyang pattern, with mutual contention of wind and dampness, and the defensive yang is already deficient. The method should be warming the meridians and dissipating cold, dispelling wind and removing dampness. The main prescription is Cinnamon Twig and Aconite Decoction. Prescription:
Cinnamon Twig 15g, prepared aconite root 60g (long decoction, one and a half hours), fresh ginger rhizome 30g, prepared liquorice root 10g, Chinese date 30g
After taking 4 doses of the above prescription, all symptoms were significantly reduced. After taking another 4 doses, she was basically cured, and since then she has been walking and working as usual. In June 1979, during a follow-up visit, the patient mentioned that she had not had a recurrence since her recovery five years ago.
