Ms. Liang, female, 22 years old, first consultation on January 6, 1979. In 1977, while working in the countryside, she often experienced irregular eating habits, leading to gradual symptoms of gastric distension, belching, and subsequently borborygmus and diarrhea. After taking terramycin and other medications, her condition temporarily improved, but diarrhea would recur if her diet was not carefully managed. She frequently had loose stools with mucus and foam, and a sensation of incomplete evacuation. Upon waking, she experienced a dry mouth and a bitter taste, and her appetite was poor. Despite multiple treatments from both Chinese and Western medicine, her condition was not cured and gradually worsened.
Current symptoms include gastric stuffiness, belching, vomiting clear fluid, reduced appetite (eating only about 50g of rice per meal), borborygmus, diarrhea 2-3 times a day, loose stools, undigested food (especially after eating beans or sprouts), dizziness, blurred vision, and fatigue in the limbs. The tongue is pale with a white, greasy coating, and the pulse is slow and weak. The diagnosis is diarrhea due to spleen deficiency. The treatment principle is to invigorate the spleen and harmonize the stomach, and to warm and disperse cold-dampness. Initially, Middle-Regulating Decoction combined with Evodia Decoction with modifications is prescribed to address the root cause. Prescription:
Tangshen 12g, White Atractylodes Rhizome 9g, Dried Ginger 9g, Evodia Fruit 5g, Fresh Ginger Rhizome 9g, Poria 12g, Dried Tangerine Peel 6g, Prepared Liquorice Root 6g, Chinese Date 9g
Second consultation (January 14): After taking 6 doses of the above prescription, gastric distension has subsided, vomiting has stopped, and appetite has improved, but stools remain loose. Two days ago, after eating a small amount of fruit, diarrhea worsened, occurring 3-4 times a day, with urgent borborygmus preceding each episode. The tongue coating is white and greasy, and the pulse is weak. Middle-Regulating Decoction combined with Red Halloysite and Limonite Decoction is prescribed:

Tangshen 12g, Dried Ginger 9g, White Atractylodes Rhizome 12g, Red Halloysite 30g, Limonite 30g, Prepared Liquorice Root 6g
Third consultation (January 31): After taking more than 10 doses of the second prescription, symptoms have significantly improved, stools have normalized, and appetite has increased. The tongue coating is white, and the pulse is weak. Six Gentlemen Decoction with added Dried Ginger, Evodia Fruit, and Chinese Date is prescribed for further recovery. Follow-up until March 1983 showed no recurrence.
