Liu, male, 60 years old, diagnosed on June 23, 1988. Long-standing history of Ménière's disease, recent vertigo attack for 4 days. Initially presented with fever, dizziness, sweating, aversion to wind, sneezing, and retching. Self-administered "common cold quick-acting capsules" without effect.
Initial consultation: Severe dizziness, as if on a boat or car, bitter taste in mouth, nausea and vomiting, accompanied by fever and chills, body aches. Tongue pale red, thin yellow coating, pulse wiry and slightly rapid. Prescribed Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Decoction:
Bupleurum, Skullcap Root, Pro Formula, Pinellia, Peony Root, Cinnamon Twig, each 10g; Fresh Ginger Rhizome, 3 slices; Chinese Date, 5 pieces; Liquorice Root, 3g.
After taking 3 doses of the above prescription, fever and chills subsided, nausea and vomiting stopped, vertigo greatly reduced. Continued with 4 more doses, all symptoms disappeared and recovery was achieved.
