Ling, male, 12 years old, first consultation on January 28, 1968. Had a fever for more than 10 days, and after taking both Chinese and Western medicine, the fever subsided and the body cooled. However, from then on, there was profuse sweating, which continued for several tens of days without stopping. Initially, there was fatigue and lack of strength, followed by restlessness and incoherent speech. At midnight, he would scream and try to run away, clenching his fists and wielding sticks, not distinguishing between relatives and strangers, and attempting to harm others. Despite repeated doses of Chinese and Western medicine, the manic behavior did not diminish, so I was invited to visit.
I saw the child sitting cross-legged, muttering incessantly, with a pale complexion, a pale tongue texture, thin white coating, and a fine, not rapid pulse. This is a case of excessive sweating injuring the heart, with heart yang floating and escaping. Sweat is the fluid of the heart, and excessive sweating not only damages fluid and consumes blood but also depletes the heart's yang qi. When heart yin is injured, heart yang becomes unstable, leading to manic behavior. Stopping the sweating will consolidate the yin, allowing yin qi to stay within and yang qi to stabilize. I used the method of unblocking the heart and consolidating, prescribing the Cinnamon Twig, Licorice, Fossil Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction. Prescription:
Cinnamon Twig and Prepared Licorice Root, 10g each; Fossil Bone and Oyster Shell, 20g each.
January 29, second consultation: After taking one dose of the medicine, he was able to sleep for several hours at night, and in the morning, he no longer muttered to himself. However, he remained silent, with a dull expression, occasionally smiling. The medicine had hit the mark, so there was no need to change the prescription. I advised to continue with the original prescription for three more doses.

February 1, third consultation: After taking the Cinnamon Twig, Licorice, Fossil Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction four times, his speech and behavior returned to normal, but he was restless at night. The illness was 70-80% cured, but his mind was still unsettled. I used a heart-nourishing and spirit-tranquilizing therapy, prescribing the original Heart-Nourishing Decoction. After more than 10 days of treatment, he fully recovered. A follow-up after 15 years showed no recurrence.
