Li, female, 50 years old, first consultation on August 23, 1987. Chief complaint: Suffering from episodic illness due to mental anxiety for over a month, with no improvement after treatment by both Chinese and Western medicine. During episodes, she feels a surge of qi rising from the lower abdomen to the throat, causing a suffocating sensation as if dying, which subsides to normal within a few minutes. After the episode, she experiences general lack of strength and shortness of breath, requiring several days of rest to recover. Her pulse is deep and thin, tongue texture is pale, and tongue coating is white. Diagnosed as running-piglet qi disorder, the treatment plan is to warm yang to dispel cold and lower the rebellious qi. Prescribed Cinnamon Twig plus Cinnamon Twig Decoction:
Cinnamon Twig 15g, Peony Root 10g, Fresh Ginger Rhizome 3 slices, Chinese Date 4 pieces, Prepared Liquorice Root 6g
decocted with water for oral administration. On August 26, follow-up consultation, after taking 2 doses of the above prescription, the surging qi subsided, and after 3 doses, she was cured.
