Postoperative intestinal adhesions cause chronic incomplete intestinal obstruction, presenting with abdominal pain, abdominal distension and fullness, and rising of qi. Traditional Chinese medicine attributes this to the stagnation of qi movement and prescribes Cinnamon Twig Decoction with an increased dosage of Cinnamon Twig to warm and promote qi movement. Once qi movement is smooth, the pain and distension will naturally resolve. For severe cases, adding Stink-Bug and dung beetle can expedite relief.
