title | Medical Records of Ma Yunqu |
Ma, male, robust in health. After returning home from a hearty meal outside, he experienced severe vomiting, followed by headache, chills, fever, restlessness, and thirst. After drinking, he vomited again, with qi counterflow upwards and in the middle, leading to a sleepless night. Initially, he took over-the-counter medicine, then sought medical help. Despite changing doctors multiple times, his condition worsened daily, unable to ingest any liquid medicine, restless in sitting or lying down, and after four or five days, he was extremely fatigued.
Upon examination, his breathing was labored, his tongue was dry and yellow, his abdomen slightly full, his bladder tense, with difficulty urinating, and a floating pulse. It was diagnosed as a water counterflow syndrome. The syndrome, with chills, fever, and headache, still falls within the Taiyang (EX-HN5) category. The labored breathing was due to abdominal distension and fullness, which in turn was due to difficulty urinating, all caused by the inability to distribute water qi. He was then given Five Ingredients with Poria Powder. Shortly after, a messenger arrived, saying the medicine was still not being ingested, what to do? I realized that while the Five Ingredients with Poria Powder was correct, it was in decoction form. Since it was a water counterflow, using water to treat water, how could it not be rejected? I then instructed to grind the medicine into fine powder, mix it with warm water, starting from 3g up to 6-9g, and after taking it, to drink warm water to aid its distribution. Following this method, his qi gradually subsided, he sweated slightly, urinated a bit easier, the chills and fever temporarily subsided, and both external and internal symptoms were alleviated.
