Lan, female, 31 years old, first consultation on May 8, 1993. One month postpartum, experiencing body pain, lumbago, and weakness in both legs as if stepping on cotton. Sweating with aversion to wind, shortness of breath, reluctance to speak, and significant leukorrhea. Previously took 5 doses of Generation and Transformation Decoction without effect. Observation shows a swollen tongue, and pulse diagnosis reveals a deep, slow, and weak pulse. Diagnosed as dual deficiency of qi and blood postpartum, with disharmony between nutrient and defensive qi. Prescribed a modified version of the Newly Supplemented Cinnamon Twig Decoction from the "Cold-Damage Disease Treatise" to regulate nutrient-defense and tonify qi to support the nutrient qi.
Cinnamon Twig 10g, Peony Root 16g, Fresh Ginger Rhizome 12g, Prepared Liquorice Root 6g, Chinese Date 12 pieces, Tangshen 20g, Chinese Taxillus Herb 30g, Eucommia Bark 10g
After taking 5 doses, body pain ceased, sweating and aversion to wind were cured, and physical strength increased. Experiencing dry mouth and slight aching pain in the waist, added Polyghace Seche 12g to the above prescription, and took 3 more doses to achieve a full recovery.
