Western medical treatment was ineffective, so he sought traditional Chinese medicine. The syndrome was identified as reckless movement of blood due to heat. The treatment principle was to clear heat and remove toxins, cool the blood, and stop bleeding. The prescribed formula was Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction with modifications: Rhinoceros Horn 10g (substituted with buffalo horn, to be infused), Unprocessed Rehmannia Root 50g, Moutan Bark 20g, Red Peony Root 15g, Raw Gypsum 50g, Acorus 15g, Lotus Rhizome Node 5 pieces, Sanqi Powder 5g (to be infused), and fresh Lalang Grass Rhizome 50g. The decoction was to be taken with water. After two doses, the fever reduced and bleeding lessened, but severe constipation occurred. Rhubarb Rhizome 10g (to be decocted later) was added. After three doses, the fever subsided, bleeding stopped, bowel movements normalized, and consciousness returned to normal.
