bubble_chart Description Also known as Bai Zixu, with the courtesy name Tianjue and the pseudonym Feixiazi, he was commonly referred to as Bai Feixia. During the Zhengde era, Emperor Wuzong bestowed upon him the title "Baoyi Shouzheng Zhenren" (True Man of Embracing Unity and Upholding Righteousness). He hailed from Luzhou, Sichuan, born into an official family. Due to his frail health from birth, his parents' frequent illnesses, and his failure in the imperial examinations, he turned to the study of medicine. He studied under Gu Qibiao Bihua Hengqian, Wang Shanren of Jinhua, and the immortal Huanghe Laoren of Wuyi, and also acquired secret techniques from the Emei master Chen Dounan. With exceptional medical skills, he traveled extensively across half the country.
Han was well-versed in the Yi Jing (Book of Changes), revered Su and Nan as classics, and believed that Danxi "could synthesize the great achievements of renowned physicians." He authored Hanshi Yitong in 2 volumes, Chinese Wax Myrtle Bark: Treatise on Treatment Formulas in 1 volume; Overseas Odd-Ingredient Formulas, among others. Only Hanshi Yitong survives today, a concise yet profound work.
Han emphasized the harmonizing qi of the spleen and stomach, and created formulas such as Three-Seed Filial Devotion Decoction and Huanghe Dan. These formulas, consisting of only two or three ingredients, are remarkably effective and remain popular in clinical practice to this day.
