A person from the Later Shu (present-day Sichuan) during the Five Dynasties period, living around the 10th century AD, with no records of his life and origin in historical texts. During the reign of Meng Chang, the ruler of Later Shu (934-965), he served as a Hanlin Academician and was commissioned to compile the materia medica. He meticulously examined the forms of medicinal products and thoroughly researched their effects, using Xinxiu Bencao as a reference. He consulted various materia medica texts, conducted comparative studies, made additions, annotations, and revisions, and compiled the Shu Bencao Guangying Gong materia medica, abbreviated as Shu Bencao, in twenty volumes, accompanied by illustrated classics, with a preface by Meng Chang, and published it.

Shu Bencao was more detailed in content than Su Jing's Xinxiu Bencao. Unfortunately, the original text has been lost, and much of its content was incorporated into Tang Shen-wei's Zhenglei Bencao and Li Shi-zhen's Bencao Gangmu during the Song Dynasty, leaving a certain impact in history.
