His place of origin is unknown. He lived during the Seven Reincarnations era and served as a court physician alongside Zhang Wen-zhong during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang. He was highly skilled in medicine and proficient in acupuncture and moxibustion. At the time, Emperor Gaozong suffered from wind dizziness, heaviness of the head, and dizzy vision, which impaired his sight. After examination, Qin diagnosed it as a result of adverse wind qi and suggested that stone needling the head to induce slight bleeding would cure it. Empress Wu Zetian, upon hearing this, was furious, stating that it was unacceptable to bleed the emperor's head and that such an act deserved execution. However, Emperor Gaozong, Li Zhi, believed that a physician should not be punished for diagnosing and treating illnesses. Moreover, he found the heaviness of the head and dizzy vision unbearable and thought that bleeding might not be harmful. Qin then needled Baihui (GV20) and the Naoke acupoint, inducing slight bleeding, which cured the emperor. Empress Wu Zetian, from behind the curtain, expressed her gratitude and rewarded Qin with gifts (see Old Book of Tang, Annals of Emperor Gaozong, Part 5, Zhonghua Book Company, 1st edition, 1955).
