bubble_chart Description Tang Liyang (now Lintong, Shaanxi), lived around the 6th century AD. During the Zhenguan era of the Tang Dynasty (627-649), when Baozang was already seventy years old and serving as the Chief of the Imperial Guards, Emperor Taizong Li Shimin suffered from dysentery, which numerous doctors failed to cure. An imperial decree was issued to seek medical prescriptions. Baozang, who had previously suffered from the same illness, was cured by taking a prescription of milk with long pepper. He submitted this prescription, and after Emperor Taizong took the medicine, his dysentery was completely cured. As a result, Baozang was awarded the position of a third-rank civil official as the Minister of the Court of State Ceremonial, making him the highest-ranking official in the history of Chinese medicine.
