bubble_chart Description A physician of the Liu Song Dynasty during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. He served as the Grand Medical Officer in the early years of Liu Song. In the 20th year of Yuanjia (443), he proposed and received approval to establish a medical education institution to teach students, and also set up official positions such as Imperial Physician Doctor and Imperial Physician Assistant. This is considered the beginning of ancient medical education in China. He was proficient in acupuncture and moxibustion as well as medicine, highly skilled, and was praised as a "master". He treated patients regardless of their wealth, with many effective treatments. His works include Maijing in six volumes, Miscellaneous Acupuncture and Moxibustion Classics in three volumes, Side and Prone Human Classics in two volumes, Nose Diagrams in three volumes, Materia Medica in six volumes, and Medical Prescriptions in forty volumes, all of which are now lost.
