Bencao Sibianlu, a pharmacological work in four volumes, was written by Zhou Yan of the Qing Dynasty and published in 1904. The book primarily discusses the medicinal properties of 128 drugs mentioned in the "Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases" based on the principles of Zhang Zhongjing's prescriptions. It argues that Zhang Zhongjing's use of drugs was rooted in the Shennong Bencao Jing, thus considering the Shennong Bencao Jing and similar texts as classics that should not be altered lightly. However, it presents differing views on the theories of medicinal properties proposed by medical scholars such as Li Shizhen, Liu Ruojin, Zou Runan, Xu Dachun, and Chen Nianzu. The original edition and the edition included in the "Zhenben Yishu Jicheng" are available. A lead-printed edition was published by the People's Medical Publishing House in 1960.
