The author is unknown, and it is believed to have been compiled by a Chinese Muslim physician who came to the East during the Yuan Dynasty (or his descendants engaged in medical activities). The original book consisted of 36 volumes. The compilation date and publication details are unclear. Currently, only 4 incomplete volumes remain: one volume of the table of contents, 58 pages; Volume 12, Fengmen (BL12), 63 pages; Volume 30, Miscellaneous Diseases, 63 pages; and Volume 34, covering incised wounds, fractures, acupuncture and moxibustion, burns and scalds, stick wounds, and human bite injuries, 49 pages. The manuscript is a red-grid copy from the Ming Dynasty, likely transcribed between the Hongwu and Yongle periods (1368?1403). It is currently housed in the Beijing Library.

The book is written in Chinese, but Arabic annotations are often appended after the transliterations of foreign drugs (to be verified). Based on the existing table of contents and the content of the remaining volumes, the book covers the diagnosis and treatment of internal, external, gynecological, pediatric, orthopedic, and detoxification emergencies, as well as formulas. It also includes sections on compounding medicines and pharmacology. The medical theories in the book are largely based on Arabic medicine, while incorporating unique Chinese medicinals and specific Chinese medicine formulas. It employs some Chinese medical terminology, making it a product of extensive exchange between Chinese and foreign medical practices.
