This book is also known as Fengqin Yanglao Shu, Shouqin Yanglao Shu, and Yanglao Quanshu. It was written by Chen Zhi (also known as Chen Zhen) in the mid-11th century during the Song Dynasty. The original edition of the book has long been lost, and the existing main versions include: the 1593 Wen Hui Tang edition from Hu Lin, the Jing Niu Tang manuscript, the early Republic of China manuscript from the Tang family collection, and the 1988 revised and annotated edition by Shanghai Science and Technology Press.

Yanglao Fengqin Shu consists of one volume divided into two parts. The first part contains 16 chapters with 160 entries, discussing dietary therapies for common internal and ear-eye diseases in the elderly. The formulas listed are mostly selected from Qianjin Yaofang, Shiyi Xinjian, Shiliao Bencao, Quan Shi Yao Fa, Zhujia Fa Zhuan, and Taiping Shenghui Fang. They are simple, easy to obtain, and practical. The second part contains 13 chapters with 46 entries, mainly discussing geriatric medical theories and key points of medication and nursing. Additionally, the end of the volume includes "Simple and Effective Emergency Formulas for the Elderly" and the Yanglao Fengqin Shu Supplement, detailing emergency single formulas and the dos and don'ts of medication and daily life for the elderly, supplementing the aforementioned content.
