bubble_chart Etymology

"Xiong" (胸), chest; "xiang" (鄉), remote place. This acupoint is located beside to chest, hence the name.

bubble_chart Location

On the lateral side of chest, 6 cun lateral to the anterior midline, in the depression of 3rd intercostal space. It is approximately at the same level as Yutang (CV18).
  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "1.6 cun below Zhourong (SP20), in the depression";
  • Zhenfang Liuji: "6 cun lateral to conception vessel on both sides".

  • Muscles: pectoralis major, outer edge of pectoralis minor, serratus anterior, internal and external intercostal muscles.
  • Nerve: third intercostal nerve.
  • Vessels: lateral thoracic arteries and veins, intercostal arteries and veins.

Insert horizontally along the intercostal space 0.3~0.5 cun, do not insert deeply. Moxibustion with moxa cone 3 to 5 times, moxibustion with moxa stick for 10 to 15 minutes.

  • Classical: fullness and distension in chest and hypochondrium, pain radiating to chest and back making it difficult to turn.
