This acupoint is used for both diagnosing and treating appendicitis, hence the name "Lanwei" (appendix).

On the upper anterior side of lower leg, 5 cun below Dubi (ST35), one finger-width lateral to the anterior border of tibia.

bubble_chart Anatomy

  • Muscles: tibialis anterior muscle and extensor digitorum longus muscle.
  • Vessels: anterior tibial artery and vein.
  • Nerve: lateral sural cutaneous nerve and deep peroneal nerve.

Perpendicular insertion 1.5~2.5 cun.

bubble_chart Efficacy

Acute and chronic appendicitis, epigastric pain, indigestion, lower limb weakness and numbness, foot drop.

bubble_chart Combinations

  • Acute simple appendicitis: Lanwei (EX-LE7) point, Tianshu (ST25) (right), and abdominal tenderness points.

bubble_chart Notes

This point is close to Shangjuxu (ST37), which is the lower he-sea point of large intestine.
