"Shang" (上), upper; "wan" (脘), stomach or gastric cavity. This point is located near the upper part of stomach, hence the name.

On the midline of upper abdomen, 5 cun above umbilicus, 1 cun above Zhongwan, and 3 cun below xiphoid process (sternocostal junction).

• Zhenjiu Juying: "5 cun above umbilicus";
• Beiji Qianjin Yaofang mistakenly records it as "1 cun below Juque (CV14)".
