"Liao" (髎), pore in the bone. The acupoint is in the gap of the elbow joint, hence the name.

On the lateral side of arm, 1 cun above Quchi (LI11) when elbow is flexed, in the depression at the edge of humerus.
  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "In the depression at outer margin of the large elbow bone";
  • Xunjing Kaoxue Bian added: "In the depression slight above the bone by one or two fen. Another method: In the gap one cun outside of Quchi (LI11)";
  • Leijing Tuyi: "It is aligned with Tianjing (TE10), located 1.4 cun away."
