This product is the whole herb with roots of the perennial herbaceous plant Yellow Patrinia (Patrinia scabiosaefolia Fisch ex Link) and White Patrinia (P. villosa Juss.) from the Patrinia family. It is produced in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Harvested in autumn, washed, dried in the shade, cut into sections, and used raw.

The whole herb with roots of the perennial herbaceous plant Sonchus brachyotus (Sonchus brachyotus DC.) from the Asteraceae family, commonly used in North and Northwest China. The whole herb with fruits of the annual herbaceous plant Thlaspi arvense (Thlaspi arvense L.) from the Brassicaceae family, commonly used in North and Central-South China.

  1. Used for intestinal abscess abdominal pain, lung abscess with expectoration of pus, and carbuncles, sores, and toxins. This product is pungent and dispersing, bitter and draining, capable of both removing toxins and expelling pus, as well as invigorating blood to resolve carbuncles, making it an essential medicine for treating intestinal abscesses. For treating intestinal abscesses where pus has already formed, it is often used with Coix Seed, Aconite Lateral Root, such as in Coix, Aconite and Patrinia Powder; if the intestinal abscess is in its early stages, with abdominal carbuncle, constipation, and no pus formation, it is often used with Lonicera, Dandelion, Peony Bark, Red Peony Root, Peach Kernel, etc. This product can also be used to treat lung abscesses with coughing up of pus and blood, often used with Heartleaf Houttuynia Herb, Reed Rhizome, Platycodon Root, etc. For treating carbuncles, sores, and toxins, it is often used with Lonicera, Forsythia, etc., and can be applied externally as a fresh poultice, all with good efficacy.
  2. Used for postpartum blood stasis abdominal pain. This product is pungent and dispersing, breaking and expelling blood stasis, unblocking meridians to stop pain. It can be used alone as a decoction, or with Trogopterus Dung, Cyperus, Chinese Angelica, etc.

The roots and rhizomes of yellow Patrinia contain oleanolic acid, Chinese ivy stem sapogenin, various saponins, as well as volatile oils, alkaloids, tannins, etc. White Patrinia contains volatile oils, and the dried fruit branches contain black India mustard seed glycosides, etc.; the roots and rhizomes contain morroniside, nux vomica glycosides, white Patrinia glycosides, etc.

  1. Yellow Patrinia has inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, dysentery bacillus, cold-damage disease bacillus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and large intestine bacillus; it also has antiviral effects.
