This product is the whole herb of the annual herbaceous plant Hedyotis (Oldenlandia diffusa (Willd.) Roxb.) of the India Madder Root family. It is produced in the provinces south of the Yangtze River in mainland China. It is harvested in summer and autumn, washed, dried in the sun, and cut into sections.

This product contains oleanolic acid, β-sitosterol, p-coumaric acid, as well as flavonoid glycosides, Hedyotin, and others. Hedyotin has anti-tumor effects. Intraperitoneal injection of Hedyotin solution in mice can produce analgesic, sedative, and hypnotic effects. In vitro experiments show that its antibacterial effect is not significant, but in vivo, it can stimulate the proliferation of the reticuloendothelial system, promote antibody formation, enhance the phagocytic ability of reticular cells and leukocytes, thereby achieving the purpose of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It also has the effect of inhibiting spermatogenesis and protecting the liver and promoting bile secretion.
