This product is made from lead, sulfur, Niter, etc., and its main component is lead trioxide (Pb₃O₄). Produced in Henan, Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Yunnan and other places. From Shennong Bencao Jing.

[Character]

It is an orange-red or orange-yellow powder with dull luster, opaque and heavy weight. When rubbed with fingers, it will feel sandy at first and then feel fine, which can make the fingers dye orange-yellow. It has a metallic pungent taste. The best ones are orange-red in color, fine and smooth, without coarse grains, and will not form lumps when exposed to water. Insoluble in water and alcohol, soluble in nitric acid, and releasing chlorine gas when dissolved in hydrochloric acid. When it is hot, oxygen is released, and part of it becomes lead oxide.

Acrid and salty, cold, toxic.

1. Benjing: "acrid, slightly cold."

3. Bencao Zheng: "acrid, slightly salty and slightly astrigent."

[Indications]

Treat Yongju, ulcer, incised wound bleeding, aphtha, nebula, soup and fire burns, fright epilepsy, malaria, dysentery, vomiting and nausea.

1. With Fossil Bone, it can be taken orally to astringe the spirit, calm fright and phlegm, and be used for madness, fright epilepsy, dysphoria insomnia, palpitation and severe palpitation. External use can reduce dampness and sores, treat ulcers that are not astringent, eczema water from rivers, and incised wound bleeding.
2. With Sweet Wormwood, it prevents attack of malaria.
3. Forged with Gypsum, draining pus to remove toxin, promoting tissue regeneration to close wound, used for Yongju ulcers where pus drips and does not close for a long time, and Eczema, tinea pedis.
4. With dry alum, for external use, it can treat Yongju sores, eczema, ringworm, scabies, mouth and tongue sores, pus in the ears, and vulvar ulcers.
5. With Coptis Rhizome, for external use, it can dissolve heat toxin and astringent eczema, and can treat Yongju ulcers and eczema, ringworm and scabies.
6. With Sulfur, it is used for scabies, tinea, and skin eczema.

[Usage and Dosage]

External use: Grind into powder and sprinkle, mix and apply; or boil into ointment. Oral administration: take into pills or powder.

[Precaution]

Do not take it if you are deficient, cold and vomiting.

1. Bencao Jingshu: "People with vomiting due to stomach deficiency or vomiting due to cold should not take it."
2. Bencao Huiyan: "If fright epilepsy is due to blood deficiency, do not give it randomly."

[Processing and Storage]

Gangmu: "For general use, rinse it with water to remove salt, fly away sand and gravel, dry it, fry it purple over low heat, remove fire toxin on the ground, and use it as medicine."

Long-term exposure to or consumption of lead tetroxide can cause lead to accumulate in the abdominal mass of human organs, followed by symptoms of acute lead poisoning. Lead trioxide has been experimentally proven to be carcinogenic to animals, but whether it is carcinogenic to humans has not yet been proven.

[Selection of Prescriptions]

1. consumptive thirst. For one coin of Minium, new water will be given away. After taking the medicine, it is advisable to eat Buckwheat porridge.
2. The vomiting continues. Use four liang of Minium, add half a catty of rice vinegar, fry it dry, burn it red in a charcoal fire, cool it down, grind it into powder, and mix it with rice to make balls as big as Wuzi. Take seven pills each time, along with vinegar soup. This prescription is called "Bixia Dan".
3. The child vomited in the water. Grind it with Minium, add jujube meat and pound well to make balls, as big as gorgon seeds. Pick a pill with a needle, burn it on a lamp, grind it into fine powder, and mix it with milk. This recipe is called "Shao Zhen Wan". Another recipe: Add a little bit of Cinnabar and alumite to the prescription of Shaozhen Pills.
4. Anti stomach qi reverse. Use two liang each of Minium and Alum, and half a liang of Shitingzhi. First put the elixir and alum in a crucible, burn charcoal to smelt red, let it cool for two days, then add Shitingzhi, grind them into powder, add a little rice, and shape into balls, as big as Mung Beans. Take fifteen pills every day and give them rice soup.
5. Chibai diarrhea. Mash the jujube meat, add Minium and Alum into equal portions, each as big as a Chinese Honeylocust Fruit seed, add a little rice, and form into balls, as big as marbles. Thread the balls through iron wire, burn them thoroughly on a lamp, grind them into fine powder after cooling, and take infused rice soup. Another recipe: Minium, fry until purple, add stir-frying to yellow, and divide into equal portions. Grind it finely, add paste to make pills, as big as pockmarks. Fresh Ginger Rhizome Liquorice Root Soup is delivered with each serving of fifty pills.
6. Pregnant women have abdominal pain and diarrhea. Use a silky fowl egg and make a small hole in the shell to let the egg white flow out, leaving only the yolk. Put five coins of Minium into the hole, mix well, seal it with mud externally, simmer it in the ashes of fire, and grind it into fine powder. For two cents per serving, rice soup will be given as a gift.
7. hematemesis, hemoptysis. For one coin of Minium, new water will be given away.
8. Hanre malaria. Divide Minium and plant soot into equal parts and grind finely. On the day of illness, take three qian on an empty stomach and give it rice soup. Two doses can cure the problem. It is also effective to make pills with rice or garlic. Another prescription: one liang of Minium, three liang of Hengshan powder, mix with honey to make pills, as big as Wuzi, take fifty pills each time, and give them with wet wine. It is effective to take it once in the morning and once when the disease is about to occur. Another recipe: Minium (fried) 2 liang, 100 pieces of garlic, mash together into puree and make into balls, as big as Wuzi. Take nine pills each time, take it on an empty stomach, and give it away after drinking water from the river. It is most effective to take the medicine after you have had two or three malaria attacks. This recipe can also treat dysentery. Another recipe: half a liang of Minium (fried) and 2 liang of Sweet Wormwood soaked in child feces, grind them into powder. Two qian for each dose, if it is cold, drink it with wine, if it is hot, drink it with tea.
9. Children have malaria, high fever and no cold. Use Minium two coins and get the honey water as a gift. If it is also aversion to cold, then serve it with wine. This prescription is called "Ghost Crying Pill".
10. Wind. Use 2 liang of Minium and 2 liang of Alum and grind them finely respectively. Take two bricks and lay them on the ground. Place seven layers of paper on the bricks. Spread elixir on the paper and auxiliary alum on the elixir. Set willow firewood around and burn it. After about ten kilograms of firewood have been burned, stop burning and let it cool down, then take the medicine and grind it together. Two coins for each serving, warm wine will be given to you. This recipe is called "Expelling the Wind".
11. infantile fright attack of noxious factor (The symptoms of this disease are like: suddenly one's friend suffers from colicky pain, feeling full and full of gas while walking on the street; or suddenly falls to the ground, with cold limbs, and even cannot be saved). Use a small teaspoon of Minium to mix the honey and pour it down.
12. All eye diseases can be cured (all eye diseases, nebula obstruction and accompanied by drowsiness can be cured, but those with nebula obstruction but no blurry vision cannot be cured). Use half a pound of honey, boil it into a purple mass in a lead pot, add two ounces of Minium and one ounce of water, simmer until all the water vapor is gone, pour it on a piece of silk cloth and filter it. Take the filtered fine powder, put it in a bottle, and bury it in the ground for twenty days before taking it out and instilling it in your eyes. Seven times a day. If the medicine sticks to the eyes and cannot be opened, then the focus has been washed away. Another recipe: mix Minium and honey thoroughly, spread it on a piece of cloth, and stick it on the great yang point. Effective in treating red eye pain. Another recipe: Minium and Alum, grind into powder in equal parts and apply on eyes. Another recipe: Minium and cuttlebone sepium, divide them into equal parts, add honey, steam them and apply them on the eyes. Cure red eyes and chronic nebula. Another recipe: take half a tael of Minium, mix carp gall fel into ointment, and apply on eyes. Treat eye tubes. Another recipe: Minium, calomel, divided into equal parts, blow a little into the ears. Left eye disease means blowing the right ear, right eye disease means blowing the left ear. Treat smallpox nebula.
13. Pediatric carcinoma of tongue (swollen and thick tongue). Take a Minium, about the size of a soybean, and place it under your tongue.
14. infantile aphtha erosion. Use one qian of Minium and one tael of raw honey, mix thoroughly, steam until black, dip chicken feathers into it and rub on the sores.
15. armpit odor. Add Minium to calomel, mix with saliva, and apply to armpits often.
16. scorpion sting. Mix Minium with vinegar and apply on it.
17. Knife wounds. Divide Minium and Talc into equal parts and apply to the injured area.
18. external hemorrhoids swelling and pain. Divide Minium and Talc into equal parts, grind into fine pieces, and mix with fresh water. Apply five times a day.
19. Chronic shank ulcer. Use one tael of Minium, one tael of yellow wax, and five qian of sesame oil to make a paste. First wash the affected area with onion and pepper soup, then apply medicinal paste. Another recipe: Minium, grinded with water, stir-fried, take one tael; yellow, soaked in wine for seven days, dried, also take one tael; and take half a tael of calomel. Grind separately into fine powder. First wash the sore with bitter tea, then fill the sore with calomel, then apply Minium, and use yellow fine powder to make a paste on the outer layer. Do not touch it. The effect will take effect in a few days.
