This product is the perennial herbaceous plant Willowleaf Rhizome (Cynanchum stauntonii (Decne.) Schltr. et Levl.) and Lilac Daphne Willowleaf Rhizome (Cynanchum glaucescens ( Decne .) Hand.-Mazz.) rhizomes and roots. Born in streams, rivers, and damp places in valleys. Mainly produced in Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan and Guangxi. Dig it in autumn, wash it and dry it in the sun.

Willowleaf Rhizome and Blackend Swallowwort Root are similar in appearance, so some areas use the two interchangeably. However, Willowleaf Rhizome is a cough-relieving and dispelling phlegm medicine, and Blackend Swallowwort Root is a medicine for clearing and relieving deficiency and heat. Their functions are very different and must be distinguished. The simple identification method is: the one with a hollow broken surface is called Willowleaf Rhizome, commonly known as "Willowleaf Rhizome" (meaning that the rhizome is hollow like a goose quill); the one with a solid broken surface is Blackend Swallowwort Root, commonly known as "solid Blackend Swallowwort Root".

There are many misuse products of Willowleaf Rhizome, such as:
  1. Lily Bulb plant Asparagus schoberioides Kunth, spiny Asparagus (A. sp) roots and rhizomes were mistakenly used as Willowleaf Rhizome in some areas of Henan and Shanxi. The rhizome is relatively thick (0.5-1cm in diameter), and the fibrous roots are thicker and longer (0.2-0.5cm in diameter). It is grey-brown, pliable and not easy to break. There is a small wood core in the center of the cut surface, and there are radial gaps between the wood core and the outer bark. It has a slight taste. bitter.
  2. The roots and rhizomes of Belamcanda Rhizome (Iris dichoto-ma Pall.) are mistakenly used as Willowleaf Rhizome in Jiangsu and other provinces. The rhizome is horizontal, irregularly nodular, gray-brown, with round stem marks or residual stem base, and the stem base has leaf sheaths; the fibrous roots are slender, 0.15-0.4cm in diameter, with longitudinal wrinkles and fine villi; the texture is hollow and soft Tough or hard and brittle, there is a small wooden core in the center of the cross section, and the taste is light and slightly bitter.
  3. The roots and rhizomes of plants of the same genus, Zhu Lingxiao (C. inamoenum Loes) and Liu Changqing (C. paniculatum Kitag.), are respectively found in individual areas of Shandong, Heilongjiang and other provinces. If mistakenly used as Willowleaf Rhizome, its shape and function are obviously different from Willowleaf Rhizome.
