The stem of this product is cylindrical and slightly flat, with branches, 15-40cm long and 0.2-0.3cm in diameter. The surface is gray-green or brown-red, with fine and slightly raised vertical lines; the nodes are slightly enlarged, with light brown membrane-like stipules, and the internodes are about 3cm long; they are hard and easy to break, and the pith of the cross section is white. The leaves are alternate, nearly sessile or with short stalks. The leaves are often shed or shriveled or broken. The whole plant contains Grass of Common KnotGrass glycoside, Daimyo Oak Bark glycoside, d-Black Catechu essence, Nutgall acid, coffee bean acid, oxalic acid, silicic acid, chlorogenic acid, p-coumaric acid, mucilage, glucose, fructose and sucrose. . Pharmacological effects
