This product is the root of Dichroa (Dichroa febrifuga L.), a deciduous shrub of the saxifraga family. Mainly produced in the provinces south of the Yangtze River and Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan and other places. Harvested in autumn. Dry. Slice and use raw or stir-fry with wine.

This product mainly contains Dichroa bases A, B, and C, and secondly it also contains Dichroa secondary bases and umbeliferol. The alkaloids contained in Dichroa have strong inhibitory effects on Plasmodium. Among them: Dichroa base C has the strongest antimalarial effect, about 100 times that of quinine, followed by Dichroa base B, which is about 50 times that of quinine: Dichroa base A is the weakest, roughly equal to quinine. Dichroa base B has anti-amoebic and emetic effects, and its emetic effect is mainly caused reflexively by stimulating the vagus and sympathetic nerve endings of the gastrointestinal tract. Dichroa decoction has an antipyretic effect on rabbits with artificial fever. Dichroa's base has antihypertensive effects. Dichroa water extract has magical effects on influenza viruses. Dichroa base B has obvious poisoning effect on Ehrlich abdominal retention of water cancer cells. Dichroa's base is toxic, and the main symptoms of poisoning are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal mucosal membrane congestion and bleeding.
