bubble_chart Composition Pueraria 15 gm, Licorice 6 gm (roasted), Scutellaria 9 gm, Coptis 9 gm
bubble_chart Preparation and Dosage
Take the above 4 ingredients, boil 800 ml of water with kudzu root first, reduce to 600 ml, then add the other herbs, decoct until reduced to 200 ml, remove the dregs, and administer in 2 warm doses.
bubble_chart Efficacy
Relieve both the exterior and interior, clear heat, and stop diarrhea.
bubble_chart Indications
The external contraction exterior pattern has not resolved, pathogenic heat has entered the interior, resulting in body heat, foul-smelling diarrhea, a burning sensation in the anus, epigastric stuffiness, heat and irritability in the chest and epigastrium, panting with sweating, dry mouth and thirst, yellow tongue coating, and a rapid pulse.
bubble_chart Formula Principles
The formula heavily utilizes Pueraria Root, which not only releases the exterior to expel pathogenic factors on the surface but also elevates clear yang, stops diarrhea, and harmonizes the exterior and interior. As interior heat is intense, Skullcap Root and Coptis Rhizome are used to clear interior heat, while Liquorice Root harmonizes the various herbs. Together, they achieve the dual purpose of resolving both the exterior and interior, clearing heat, and stopping diarrhea.
bubble_chart Modern Pharmacology
- Antiarrhythmic effect: "Jilin Chinese Medicine" 1986(6):30, the water-alcohol precipitate of this formula can counteract arrhythmias induced by Aconite Mother Root alkaloids in rats, chloroform-adrenaline induced arrhythmias in rabbits, calcium chloride induced arrhythmias in rats, and chloroform induced arrhythmias in mice. Experiments also show that the water-alcohol precipitate of this formula has a significant slowing effect on the normal heart rate of experimental animals, possibly because this formula can antagonize the heart rate accelerating effect of isoproterenol.
- Antibacterial and temperature-lowering effects: "Chinese Patent Drug Research" 1986(12):39, this formula has a significant temperature-lowering effect on rabbits with fever induced by pentavalent vaccine. At the same time, it has certain antibacterial effects both in vitro and in vivo against Staphylococcus aureus, Diplococcus pneumoniae, and dysentery bacillus.
