This product is a carbonate mineral, water caltrop base peel zinc ore. It mainly contains zinc carbonate (ZnCO₃). It is primarily produced in Guangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Hunan, and other regions. After excavation, soil and impurities are removed. It is processed and referred to as "prepared calamine," with methods including sealing wax, vinegar quenching, and quenching with the Three Yellow Decoction (Coptis Rhizome, Phellodendron Bark, Rhubarb Rhizoma) after calcination. It is dried in the sun, ground into powder, and used after grinding with water.

1. Used for red eye nebula, wind eye with rotten strings. Calamine is sweet, neutral, and non-toxic, capable of removing toxins and improving vision, reducing nebula, as well as absorbing dampness, stopping tears, and relieving itching, making it an essential external medicine for ophthalmology. For treating sudden redness and swelling of the eyes, it is combined with weathered nitre in equal parts, dissolved in water for eye drops; for treating nebula membrane in the eyes, it is combined with green vitriol, mirabilite in equal parts, boiled in water and used for warm washing; for treating various types of blepharitis, it is combined with Mahonia to make an eye ointment for external use; for treating various eye diseases, it is often combined with borax, borneol, etc., to make eye drops.
2. Used for non-healing ulcers and skin eczema. This product can remove toxins, promote tissue regeneration, and heal sores, as well as absorb dampness and relieve itching. For treating non-healing ulcers with pus and water dripping, and skin eczema with cutaneous pruritus, it is often combined with Indigo, Phelloendron Bark, calcined Gypsum ground into powder for external use.
