Entwining throat wind: swelling, pain, and blockage in the throat, red streaks winding around, frothy saliva spilling from the mouth, difficulty swallowing food, and in severe cases, the swelling extends outward. Galloping throat wind: sudden swelling in the throat and tongue area, rapidly increasing in size. Tongue-entwining throat wind: stiff tongue with ulceration on both sides of the root. Vulva carbuncle: a growth on the upper palate resembling a purple plum.

If internal heat is severe, or if food and drink are vomited immediately upon ingestion, add 3 grams of Coptis Rhizome; if there is thirst, parched lips, dry tongue, constipation, and dark urine, add Phelloendron Bark, Skullcap Root, Gardenia, and Coptis Rhizome; if there is swelling, add 15 grams of Lonicera.
