This product is derived from the resin-containing wood of the evergreen tree Aquilaria (Aquilaria agallocha Roxb.) and White Aucklandia Root (A. sinensis (Lour.) Gilg) of the Thymelaeaceae family. White Aucklandia Root is primarily produced in Hainan, Guangdong, Yunnan, and Taiwan, while Aquilaria is mainly found in Southeast Asia and India. The resin-containing wood can be harvested year-round, with the non-resin parts removed and dried in the shade. It is then ground into powder and used in its raw form.

  1. Used for chest and abdominal distension and fullness pain. This product is pungent, aromatic, and warm in nature, good at dispersing chest and abdominal pudendal coldness, moving qi to relieve pain. It is used to treat congealing cold and qi stagnation causing chest and abdominal distension and fullness pain, often combined with Lindera, Aucklandia Root, Areca Seed, etc., such as in the "Weisheng Jiabao" Aquilaria Four Milled Ingredients Decoction. For treating deficiency-cold of spleen and stomach causing epigastric cold pain, it is often paired with Cassia Bark, Dried Ginger, Aconite Lateral Root, etc., such as in Weisheng Baojian Aquilaria, Cinnamon Bark and Aconite Daughter Root Pill.
  2. Used for stomach cold vomiting. This product is pungent and warm to disperse cold, bitter in taste to descend and discharge, good at warming stomach and dissipating cold, downbearing counterflow to stop vomiting. For treating cold evil invading the stomach, vomiting clear water, it can be combined with Dried Tangerine Peel, mountain spicy tree fruit, Pepper Fruit, etc., such as in Shengji Zonglu Aquilaria Pill. For treating long-term hiccups due to stomach cold, it can be combined with Persimmon Calyx, Cardamon Fruit, Perilla Leaf, etc.
  3. Used for deficiency-type dyspnea syndrome. This product can both warm the kidney to improve qi reception and downbear counterflow to relieve panting, suitable for treating deficiency-type dyspnea syndrome caused by coldness in the lower origin and failure of the kidney to receive qi, often combined with Cassia Bark, Aconite Lateral Root, Psoralea, etc., such as in Black Tin Pill. For treating phlegm-fluid retention panting due to upper excess and lower deficiency, it is often combined with cultivated purple perilla fruit, Pinellia, Magnolia Bark, etc.
