It is mainly produced in Sichuan, Zhejiang, Hubei, and other regions. It is harvested in summer, repeatedly sun-dried and piled up until it is 70-80% dry, then the fibrous roots are removed and it is dried. It is used in its raw form.

Used for heart yin deficiency and warm disease pathogenic heat disturbing the heart camp, restlessness, insomnia, dry crimson tongue, etc. It can nourish yin, clear the heart, relieve restlessness, and calm the mind. For treating restlessness and insomnia due to yin deficiency with heat, it is often combined with Unprocessed Rehmannia Root, Sour Jujube, and others, such as Celestial Emperor Heart-Tonifying Pill; for treating pathogenic heat disturbing the heart camp, body heat, dysphoria, dry crimson tongue, etc., it is often paired with Coptis Rhizome, Unprocessed Rehmannia Root, Bamboo Leaf, and others, such as Nutrient-Clearing Decoction.
