This product is the rhizome of the perennial climbing herb Sevenlobed Yam Rhizome (Dioscorea septemloba Thunb.) and Hypoglaucous Yam (Dioscorea hypoglauca Palibin) from the Chinese Yam family. It is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Hubei, Guangxi, and other regions. It is harvested in spring and autumn, sliced, and dried in the sun. It is used in its raw form.

1. Used for chylous stranguria and leukorrhagia. This product can drain dampness and separate the clear from the turbid, making it an essential medicine for treating turbid urine or chylous stranguria resembling rice water. It is often used with Lindera, Sharpleaf Galangal Fruit, and Acorus, such as in Rhizoma Dioscoreae Decoction for Clearing Turbid Urine. It can also be used to treat leucorrhea in women caused by excessive dampness.
2. Used for wind-dampness Bi disease. This product can dispel wind, eliminate dampness, dredge collaterals, and relieve pain. It is particularly effective for treating pain in the waist and knees, and restricted movement of tendons and vessels. If the condition is biased towards cold-dampness, it can be used with Aconite Lateral Root and Achyranthes Root, as in Hypoglaucous Yam Pills. For dampness-heat conditions, it can be combined with Phelloendron Bark, Honeysuckle Stem, and Stephania Tetrandra, among other medicinal combinations.
