bubble_chart Overview

Garden Balsam Seed Acute cervicitis is less common than chronic cervicitis and mostly occurs due to postpartum infections or septic late abortion. Vaginal trichomoniasis, fungal infections, and gonorrhea are often accompanied by Garden Balsam Seed cervicitis.

bubble_chart Pathological Changes

The pathological changes resemble those of general infections and inflammations, with cervical congestion and redness, grade I edema. The cervical mucosa is everted outward, and a large amount of purulent mucus is discharged from the cervical canal. Microscopically: the cervical mucosa and submucosal tissues show extensive infiltration of neutrophils, congestion, and varying degrees of edema. Sometimes, inflammatory lesions can invade the glandular lumina through the epithelium, leading to epithelial shedding, increased glandular secretions that become purulent, filling the glandular lumina and causing significant dilation of the glandular cavities.

bubble_chart Clinical Manifestations

Increased leucorrhea is the most common and sometimes the only symptom of acute cervicitis, often presenting as purulent. Since cervicitis often coexists with urethritis, cystitis, or acute vaginitis, endometritis, and other conditions, it can mask other symptoms of cervicitis, such as varying degrees of lower abdominal and lumbosacral pain, as well as bladder irritation symptoms. In cases of acute gonococcal cervicitis, there may be varying degrees of fever and leukocytosis.

Infections caused by different pathogens can manifest as secretions of varying characteristics, sometimes distinguishable by visual inspection. For details, refer to the chapters on vulvitis and vaginitis. However, an accurate diagnosis should still rely on taking cervical secretions for smear or culture tests to guide targeted treatment.

bubble_chart Treatment Measures

Administer sulfonamides and antibiotics locally or systemically (for severe cases) to control the infection. Since it often coexists with Garden Balsam Seed intrauterine membrane inflammation (puerperal infection) or specific vaginitis, the treatment principle should prioritize addressing the primary condition.
