In China, common pathogenic caterpillars include the mulberry caterpillar, pine leaf caterpillar, and stinging caterpillar.

Disease cause: Caterpillar dermatitis This condition often occurs in people who relax or play under trees, and is more common during hot summers. There is usually a history of caterpillar contact shortly before the onset of symptoms.

It is commonly seen on the face and neck. The lesions often present as edematous erythema, wheals, or large areas of edema, sometimes with blisters or bullae, usually solitary or in small patches. There is intense pain, and the late stage [third stage] is often accompanied by cutaneous pruritus.
